Rt 24 West to 580 W 580 W crossing San Rafael Bridge. Exit Sir Francis Drake. Follow Sir Francis Drake to town of Fairfax. After Valero Gas Station turn immediately left at brown Fairfax sign onto Pacheco. Make immediate right onto Broadway. Go 1 block and turn left onto Bolinas/Fairfax Rd. Go 8 miles to Lake Alpine Dam. Cross Dam and park along the road. Continue on foot to trailhead on left at hairpin turn.
Optional Commernts
There are no bathrooms a trailhead. Bathrooms are available in Fairfax at the Town Hall a few blocks in from Broadway on Bolinas Rd at the corner of Lake St. (on right). Pit toilets are available at Laurel Dell and Rock Spring. This hike can be done as a car shuttle making it more appealing to those with knee problems. Almost all the elevation gain is in the first section. One car could be left at Rock Spring to bring the drivers back to Alpine Dam. It is a 6 mile drive on Bolinas Rd and Ridgecrest to Rock Spring.
