For longer trips, and Safaris, the leader determines reimbursement using this formula.  Estimate approx. round trip miles (plus miles for daily hikes if a Safari), then est. costs for gas, using 23 MPG Hwy.  Add 50% (cover some of other auto costs),  finally dividing by average of 3 passengers per car. (always rounding up the next even dollar per person).                   Rev. 4/13

Example: 500 miles round trip (for Safaris, including rough estimate of daily miles R/T each hike) =  22 gallons (500/23=22) at $3.00*/ gal. (use CURRENT* gas price) = $66.00 X 1 1/2 (IE added 50%) = $99.00 divided by 3 (average passengers/car) = $33.00 each for example trip. All rounded to even $ -Safari leader can adjust to cover gas if average less per car required.
