Nov. 10, 2021 Regular Board Meeting-Approved
Al Peters-Board voted to approve the Treasurer’s report. Al will send out a final report for approval at the next Board meeting.
Elliot provided a club member’s detailed suggestions regarding the accommodation of Guests on club hikes.
The Board suggested that Members Forum continue as the final item on the Board’s agenda.
Trail Steward- Larry Barclay had submitted his report on the new .9-mile Skyline Trail Extension. Larry, John Fiske and Rich Perona have completed flagging the trail route. Trail building will begin in earnest when the ground dries a bit more.
Membership- Anne Squire reported on Club Membership: At present 276 dues-paid-up members, which is 77% of last year’s membership number. Amblers is the largest group and Monday’s group is the smallest. Only a few non hikers were included in the membership number.
Hike Leadership Development: Harriet Schwartz reported on plans for a meeting scheduled for January 18th at 7PM to brainstorm new ideas for hikes. Tentative plans call for another Development meeting on January 25th at 7:00PM.
Holiday Party Summary: Lonna Wolf reported that the consensus of party participants was that the party was a success. Lonna commented on the high number of volunteers who worked on the party, noting especially that the volunteers worked well as a team. A written summary of the successful ingredients of the 2021 party will be retained for use by next year’s Holiday Party volunteers, including suggestions for enhancements for the 2022 celebration.
Treasury- Al Peters reported that the Club budget for the 2021 Holiday Party covered the $1000. deficit in the party’s budget. The Board approved this report
Distribution of MD IDS: Harriet Schwartz reported on the luggage tag project. Clear luggage tags have been ordered and are in the pipeline now. Every club member will receive an identity tag which will also contain the hiker’s medical information.
Technology Committee: Anne Squire and Diane Hinds plan to meet shortly as the Technology Committee. Their first task is to thoroughly review the TC website.
Board Orientation: Harriet Schwartz-Harriet described the Board Orientation process and provided suggestions for new Board members.
March Potluck: The approved budget for this event is $225. Uncertainty exists about the ability to proceed with these plans, given concerns about the spread of the Omicron variation to the Covid-19 epidemic. Questions had arisen about any club policy on the use and discarding of compostable utensils. The compostable matter will be added to the March Board meeting agenda as an action item.
Idellle Lipman raised the broader question of decision making on events during this time of Covid. Members working on events were urged to maintain maximum flexibility in making any commitments made to catering companies and other contract providers. This led to group discussion of club policy on mask wearing, especially while hikers car pool. Consensus arose to follow current mask policy which enables car pool drivers to set rules for their passengers to and from trailheads.
