  Attach a label to your dish, naming it and identifying major ingredients that might contain allergens.

  Coffee, tea and pie dessert will be provided by the Club.

• Winter 2025 Safari: Hiking the High Desert

  Hiking the High Desert: Joshua Tree National Park

  This trip is for active Club members who are capable of meeting the physical demands of the trip. 

  • Suitable for strong Amblers, Ramblers and Trekkers

  • 6 nights and 5 days

  • Accommodations at the Hyatt Palm Springs
  • • All meals, except one dinner are included.
  • Double occupancy $2,199 Single occupancy $2,849

  Hiking will be up to 6.8 miles daily on varied terrain including sandy washes and rocky, established trails with loose footing; some single track. Rock scrambling and use of hands required to navigate terrain and ladders. Seasonal shallow stream crossings and possible snow.

  Elevation gains of 500-1,000 feet at 4,500 to 8,500 feet. Road Scholar will offer different levels of hiking based on participants.

  Participants will be required to carry a minimum of 2-3 liters of water daily.

  Road Scholar Cancellation Policy is generous. 
  

  • $100 deposit can be transferred to another trip if requested prior to 67 days from the start of this trip.
  • We encourage purchase of Road Scholar “Cancel for any Reason Insurance” which is also refundable.

  March 22 to 27, 2026

  Experience the beauty of the Sonoran desert bloom next spring and enjoy 4 days of hiking and Happy Hours with the Trails Club.

  • Apply to attend online between Oct 1 and Nov 11.

  Coordinate travel plans and line up a roommate prior to applying. As always you are responsible for your own transportation and roommate arrangements.

  • 30 rooms, with a hot breakfast included, have been reserved at the La Posada Lodge & Casitas with a block rate of $145 + tax. You can alert planners to your room size preference when you apply. If traveling with a partner or spouse, you can add their name to your application as a guest.

  A Wait List will be maintained.
  

  • Acceptance notices, including hotel registration info, will go out Nov 15.  

  Priority will be given to active members who have previously contributed to the Club by leading hikes, social events and/or served on the Board and in Support positions AND those who volunteer to lead a hike on this Safari. 

  • Travel via air or car (850 miles).

  You can fly into Tucson directly (the airport is 16 miles from the hotel) or Phoenix (about a 2 hours drive from Tucson). The hotel does not provide airport shuttle service.

  Please keep in mind hikers will be carpooling to trail heads as usual so consider renting or sharing a car rental when making your travel plans. The hotel is about 7 miles from downtown Tucson.
