  Join Carolyn Walkling on an adventure to the recent new park in the Presidio. 4.5 miles, mostly flat. Return late afternoon. 

  It offers unforgettable Golden Gate Bridge views, the  Outpost, an amazing playground and the Field Station Curiosity Lab, trails and public lawns, food trucks celebrating diverse cultures, and some of the best places to picnic in the Presidio.

  It’s built on and around the Presidio Parkway tunnels (hence Tunnel Tops!) making it easy and fun to walk from the center of the Presidio to the park’s beautiful waterfront at Crissy Field.

  Bring your clipper card and a lunch. Arrive at Gateway by 8:45 for 9:00 departure.

  We will take BART from Lafayette to the Embarcadero,  and then the free Presidio bus to the park.

  We will explore the park and the Presidio Visitor Center.

  Limited to 25 people. There will be a wait list if limit is reached.

  Experience the grandeur of the Cascades with fabulous hikes, colorful wildflowers, mountain lakes and rivers, and all the fun and camaraderie members have come to expect of a Trails Club Safari.

  
  

  Hotel accommodations are at the Best Western: Sister's Ponderosa Lodge. Queen and king rooms and king suites are available with a full hot breakfast included with block rates from $239+tax.

  
  

  In order to offer a great discount and accommodate a large group in this popular area, members must make their hotel reservations by TUESDAY, AUGUST 27, 2024. Register with the Club first to receive the discount hotel link email.

  Hotel offers a 48 hour reservation cancellation policy.

  
  

  Travel is via air (Redmond or Portland airports) or personal car. As always you are responsible for your own transportation and roommate arrangements.

  
  

  If driving there are plenty of opportunities to break up the trip with overnights in Shasta or Klamath Falls areas.

• Winter 2025 Safari: Hiking the High Desert

  Hiking the High Desert: Joshua Tree National Park

  This trip is for active Club members who are capable of meeting the physical demands of the trip. 

  • Suitable for strong Ramblers and Trekkers

  • 6 nights and 5 days

  • Accommodations at the Hyatt Palm Springs
  • • All meals, except one dinner are included.
  • Double occupancy $2,199 Single occupancy $2,849

  Hiking will be up to 6.8 miles daily on varied terrain including sandy washes and rocky, established trails with loose footing; some single track. Rock scrambling and use of hands required to navigate terrain and ladders. Seasonal shallow stream crossings and possible snow.

  Elevation gains of 500-1,000 feet at 4,500 to 8,500 feet. Road Scholar will modify hiking difficulty based on participants.

  Participants will be required to carry a minimum of 2-3 liters of water daily.

  Road Scholar Cancellation Policy is generous. 
  

  • $100 deposit can be transferred to another trip if requested prior to 67 days from the start of this trip.
  • We encourage purchase of Road Scholar “Cancel for any Reason Insurance” which is also refundable.
